First Bull Shoals trip of 13
« on: January 24, 2013, 08:02:00 AM »
We took Big Ts boat yesterday and went looking for some sandies.  It was only 19 when we arrived (weatherman said it would be 25-30).  Luckily there was no wind or clouds.  When we fished in the sun it was tolerable but in the shade BRRRR.

We fished from Beaver Creek Marina to K Dock Marina.  We never caught a single sandie.  We talked to a couple of other boats.  One had no sandies and the other said he had caught a couple.

We were using slider grubes, bucktail jigs, and stingers.

We wound up catching 12 game fish 4 black bass (3 of them were largemouth with the best right at 5 pounds and 1 was a 2.5 pound smallmouth), 4 walleye just short of the 18" Bull Shoals minimun, and 6 really good crappie (two of them were about 15" long).  Neither one of us had remembered a camera.

It is supposed to get bad here with freezing rain for a couple of days then mabye warm up Monday.  I think we'll go back and have another look.

Sounds like a good frigid day. Tomorrow is a winter weather advisory around here.  Did you guys spot any decent size schools on your graph ?

Steve,

I was with Big T.  He has no equipment.  His units are a flasher and an X96 so we wouldn't know a big school of anything from a downed tree.

He is the personification of cheap.  But he is a good light line stick and has been fishing down there for a very long time.  We'll be using his as he owes me 8 trips and I want to collect on every one of them. ;D

Sounds like I am not the only nut here. I was out fishing yesterday and today. Yesterday was the worst. It was windy and that made for a stinging cold. My line crystallized as I reeled it in. And sometimes I could not cast due to all the ice in my rod guides. When I tried to stow my trolling motor to move to a different location (Thursday morning) I could not pull it up. It was frozen. It finally thawed by 11:30.

I've never had that happen Carter but I did have my rods freeze to the carpet in freezing fog early one February morning.  I had to fish with the one in my hand because I was afraid of breaking the others as they were stuck down so hard.

It has turned around here weatherwise.  It is 60 outside but I have a barn repair guy coming today and a dry waller tomorrow.  By Wed it is supposed to be cold again.
