It is time
« on: April 16, 2012, 03:10:04 PM »
for some serious bait chunking.

Red has her tablet set up as a wi fi hot spot so I can type on the forum from the lap top in the camper as I am doing right now.  I am set up in the Dam Site Campground on Pomme de Terre lake.  I plan to fish every day for the next two weeks.

I'll report back.  BTW if any of you old boys want to motor several hundred miles, feel free to come join me.

Are you camping with some other friends? If you fish every day you will sleep good at night ! Ha ha. It's just a dab to far to make the jaunt on an impulse. I've been single since Fri and Rachel won't be back until Wed. afternoon. I've been fishing pretty steady but it is wearing me out. Hate to see what it would be like if I was catching anything. Keep us posted.

IF gas drops to $2.50 a gallon get ready for some company!
OK, OK, maybe just down to $3.

Ah who am I kidding? We are in the process of getting our kitchen remodeled and I have to find some light fixtures for the wife. If I leave now I may not be allowed back in!
Good catchin’ to ya!

Ain’t these new fangled thingamagigs something else? Back in the day we use to have to walk barefoot three miles up hill in knee deep snow just to get to use the neighbors phone…….ah but I digress; now you can sit at your campsite and KEEP US POSTED! ;D

Well the lake is up 5' and muddy.  Some of the fish are in the brush but stubborn.  I only managed 4 this morning.  I talked to 3 older gentlemen on the ramp.  One said he was filppin and didn't do any good.  One said he caught 4 but didn't say how.  The other guy said 4 on a lizzard.

I'm givin spinnerbaits a chance in the morning then bluff ends with jigs and senkos along with submerged brush piles with jigs and craws.  I know they can't all be in the brush.

The weather is great and the campground with the views of water on 3 sides makes me want to sell the house and go to work for the COE/not.

I like it when they're on the lizard in flooded brush. Many memories of pitch'n Zoom magnum lizards way back behind the bushes and brush and bringing them out of there!

I guess 3 sides is better than all 4 sides  :o

Enjoy!

Well it looks like 4 with 1 keeper is the norm for me.  I went to the other arm and that is what I got.  This time only one on a spinnerbait, 2 on tubes, and the keeper on a brush hog.

It's back to the creek arm today to see if the muddy water up there will give up some fish.  Red says she wants to go along this morning.  Maybe she'll bring me some good luck.

They normally release 100 cfs but have been doing 5000 because of the rain and the rising water.  Tomorrow is supposed to be cold and rainy.  Clear and cold Sat and Sun.  Those usually make for hard spring days.  That's all I need is harder fishing.

However, it is still beautiful here and I don't have to mow the grass. >:D >:D

Have you tried fishing a little deeper? Look for the places where the bass were before the water went up. Or maybe a vertical wall close to shallow water. Good luck.  :)

Sad to say but yes I have Carter.  I am basically a deep water guy who used jigs, tubes and senkos.  Yesterday was the worst so far.  I only got 2 and they were in the bushes on wiggle warts.

The good thing is they are now drawing down the lake.  That should move the fish out of the bushes and back to regular cover and structure.

I'm taking today and maybe tomorrow off since we had storms last night and have a cold cloudy day with strong north winds and temps tonight back into the 30s.

Well dang, that stinks. We have that weather heading our way. Temps are supposed to drop later tomorrow.
