New Depthfinder
« on: April 30, 2013, 06:59:11 AM »
I just upgraded my old humminbird 797c2 (some of you may remember that I was an early adopter of sidescan) to a 898c HD.  In a word - fantastic!  Resolution and screen clarity are greatly improved.  I also can get sidescan at 30 mph - not full resolution but still enough to see points and humps and get a good idea of where to slow down and look for sweetspots in ledges, etc.  The down imaging is also great - no more guesting if those are branches or fish on that piece of structure.

Oh wow.   You're the first that I have heard say you can get that at that speed.   Post some screen saves from it sometimes.  Love to see those.

The 898 is what I have. How do you get it to scan at that speed?

My ducer comes out of the water at about 7 mph then I lose my scanning capability.

I agree the down imaging is way way sweet. I'll be doing some upgrading soon myself and I currently have the birds but been thinking about going with Lowrance. We'll see.
