Club Tournament Today
« on: March 30, 2013, 07:14:29 PM »
Our club had its first tournament of the season today at Guist Creek Lake. We had 17 boats. The morning started off cold and foggy. The fog hung around until nearly 10:00. We caught four keepers. The first three came during the morning. Our catch weighed 5.52 pounds and believe it or not that was good enough for first place  :D The second place team 5.40 pounds. Big fish was just over four pounds. Our next tournament is at Lake Cumberland on 13 APR; opening day of our Spring turkey season of all things.

Thanks fellas! I got home from Florida a few hours ago. I took my neice and nephew. She caught a nice bass in a small lake behind my Aunt and Uncle's house and both of them caught one fish on our charter; I blanked. We had a good time though.

Tournament on Saturday at Cumberland was a bust. My partner and I went down there on Friday to pre-fish. We caught a few in different places. Saturday we could not get a bite.

My partner and I pre-fished Green River Lake yesterday and caught a few bass. He had a giant on back in a creek. It got off at the boat. It rained most of the day and all last night. Today the weather was a little better until the wind picked up. We caught five keepers out of a possible limit of six. My partner lost a decent fish right at the boat and I had a long line release  ::) Our bass came on jerkbait, spinnerbait and worm. I caught a nice smallmouth that went 3.14 pounds. Our final weight was 10.42 pounds I think. That put us in second place. First was won with about 20 pounds. I was happy with our results because the plan we had worked. Our next tournament is in two weeks at Cedar Creek Lake. Only one keeper per person for a max limit of two. All bass have to be minimum of 20" there.  It is a tough lake but we have gotten in the money there before.

Thanks! I forgot to mention that when we put in the morning of the tournament I had to step down from the courtesy dock into my partner's boat. When we returned for weigh-in the top of the dock was a few inches under water. I guess all the rain we got through the night rose the lake over a foot during the day.

We fished Cedar Creek Lake today. It wasn't supposed to rain or be as windy as it was.  ::) Anyway, we caught several bass and a few nice ones. My biggest was 18 1/2". Unfortunately we didn't catch any that were 20" or better. We had about 15 boats in the tournament and only three had a keeper. Our next tournament is at Barren River Lake.

We have had some rain in the last few weeks! Every weekend a new front moves through and is throwing between an inch to 2 inches at us every time.
Farmers around here are getting nervous. :(

I think we've had enough rain for a while. These fronts keep messing with the fishing too.

carter, i'm thinkn that is a tough tough tournament to have to fish! ;D

(stating the obvious here) Not only are you competing againt all the other anglers in the contest, moreso though... the fish that day/conditions/yourself. You are also up against another bigger wall....the size of the fish... a 20" minimum at that, and nothing smaller acceptable! 20" 's is a hefty dog-gone fish!

Congrats on the success you (both) did have!

Thanks Buzz. While it was tough it was fun. Of course it hurts when you are throwing up to four pound bass back cause they are too short  :o

I typically feel that way about Barren. I have never really had a lot of luck there. I am hoping that will change.

I actually caught a couple of keepers at Barren River Lake today. My partner and I had a limit that went 12.77 lbs but unfortunately that only got us 4th place. First had just over 16 pounds. We had 10 boats in our tournament and all had fish with only a few catching less than a limit. We had a good day even though we did not get a check.  :)

We fished Taylorsville Lake today. The weather overall was good. Mostly cloudy this morning towards noon followed by a brief rain then the sun came out rest of the day. This morning I hooked a good bass, got it to the boat where my partner was ready to net it. He shot the net down and hit my bass with it rather than scooping him. The 5 plus pounder came off the hook  :o We only caught two keepers weighing 4.53 pounds. No check. We would have at least got big bass today if he had not knocked the bass off.

Funeral services for my partner will be posted at a later date  ;D

Oh my. You won't have to take it up with "your partner" any more. I'm sure he feels incredibly unpleasant about the whole deal. I was in a big event as a non boater a while back and my "pro" had about a 15lb limit at noon and was fishing to cull up. When he got the next one and opened the well all the fish were belly up. This was in a new Z9 with great livewells. Apparently I had bumped off the livewell switch and didn't know it. Neither of us knew for sure who did it but we also knew who did it, if that makes any sense. Of course the pro would not do that and I was in much closer proximity to the switches so it makes sense that I did it even though I don't remember doing it. Needles to say he was very, very disappointed and I was pretty freaked out. He had to quit fishing immediately and go weigh his fish before they lost any more weight, take 5 dead fish penalties , and he lost 2 hrs of fishing time. We both were able to get past it (I think) but it really opened my eyes about being much more careful. Wish I coulda changed it but I couldn't.

We fished Green River Lake again today. I don't know what place we finished in but it wasn't last. We only had one keeper that I caught on a craw. My partner netted it and as I was working the bass to the boat I was telling him to remain calm  ;D  It weighed 3.40 pounds. One team we bested had three keepers but they weighed 3.35 pounds. Winning team had over 14 pounds. After fishing all day we stopped by our next tournament site, Willisburg Lake, and fished another three or so hours. We each caught a keeper there and several short bass. I got home a little after 10 tonight. All in all it was good day.

We fished our club tournament at Willisburg Lake today. It rained most of the day. I caught our first keeper of the two we had. Our total weight was 2.30 pounds. The winning team had just over six pounds. Big fish a little over 4.50 pounds.
