The not so magic weekend/or a million other titles/rant
« on: July 25, 2013, 07:36:21 AM »
I guess when ya have problems consistently ya don't have to look too far for the source of the problem.  That's about as far as I'm gonna go with my responsibility. I guess from what I can tell if a guy is gonna buy a boat during the "peak" season then buy it from a dealer or be prepared to be frustrated. I don't get it, I don't know what's up with these guys. I was taught by my dad that when you decide to list something for sale then be prepared to take action to make the sale happen. (Let me catch a breath of air.) I've been looking for a boat since last October, and looking seriously with cash since May of this year. I'm picky as this will probably be my last glitter sled. I've found 3 that will work. None of them are "exactly" what I desire in terms of the total package regarding setup, price, and condition, but all 3 will work. One is in California, one is in Wisconsin, and the third is in Texas. Beats me why I can't find one a little further away from Florida. LOL. I have tried in earnest to buy 2 of them. These guys advertise them and then don't want to follow through with buyer's due diligence when following through with the sale. The shops are no help during "peak" season unless you buy from them. I don't understand a guy who says " I can't take the boat to get inspected because I'm still  using it. " Then why is it advertised for sale? One seller wants me to make the trip and "look" at the boat on a Sunday after 6pm and then close the deal by 9:30 on Monday so he can get to work. I called one seller and talked to him at length and asked him to email me a detailed description of the boat along with a comprehensive file of pics. he sent me 4 pics of which 2 were already in his ad and no detailed description of the boat. I don't get it. I think I'm supposed to stick with my 187.  ;D

Steve, I would just write those guys/boats off. There is probably some reason for their actions and it doesn't smell good to me. I guess you have been looking on, Bassboat Central? I have seen several on there that I like but can't buy at this time...and they are close to home.

I have ran into that exact same thing.  Was trying to buy an Allison from a guy and he just was so short in his replies, that I just said forget it.

Tell me again what your looking for?   I was thinking you said a 210?

Back up and take a breath.  Very few people whether buying or selling have had the experience to make the sale go smoothly.  If you want smooth go to the guy who sells for a living because he has to do it well or go hungry.

Good wisdom there Dayne. That's pretty much what is going on. I've narrowed it down to the one in Wisconsin and took a small (?) risk. I went there on Sat eve by truck and returned Wednesday at noon with the boat after stopping through Aurora Canvas on the way home. Anyone care to guess how many gas stations there between Milwaukee WI and Gainesville, FL ?  :o

I'm guessing six or several.  I just got back from Louisville, KY via Sault St Marie Michigan.  The normal to Louisville and back is 1000 and I put on 2800.  We took the truck and yes we stopped for gas a few times.

Your trip isn't out of the ordinary.  I had customers from Cal., Wis., and Mass.  when I was in the business.  They looked on the web site and we had some interesting telephone conversations.  One guy even wanted me to deliver him a Champ to the east coast until I made him the bid for me to take off work for a week (without pay) and drive the 3000 + miles.

Did you buy a cover from Dell ?  Mine is 11 years old, been outside several hundred days and still looks real good.

So where are the pics of this new rig?

Yes the cover came from Dell. I'm waiting for the rain to stop and then I'll  get some pics. I could of bought a small truckload of 210s  closer but they all have white. While those are really nice looking it just isn't the color for me. An interesting coincidence has popped up. The last 3 yrs I was in Kansas I worked for Ozawkie marine. I bought my 187 there in 05. This 210 also was sold new by Ozawkie. Small world.

Hey Steve, maybe you could have saved yourself a lot of trouble and bought one from them in the first place  ;D
